What is Zakat?

Zakat is a compulsory act of charity in Islam, designed to support the poor and those in need. Every adult Muslim who meets the required minimum wealth (Nisab) is obligated to give 2.5% of their qualifying wealth.

Allah says in the Qur’an (Surah At-Tawbah 9:60):

“Zakat expenditures are only for the poor and the needy, and for those employed to collect it, and for bringing hearts together, and for freeing captives and those in debt, and for the cause of Allah, and for the stranded traveler, an obligation imposed by Allah.”

By giving Zakat through Endless Welfare Foundation, you can help support deserving individuals and families through healthcare, education, rehabilitation, clean water and community welfare.

The best charity is that given when one has surplus wealth, and the upper hand is better than the lower hand.

What Is Zakat?

Zakat is a compulsory act of worship and one of the five pillars of Islam. Every adult Muslim who owns wealth above the Nisab threshold for one full Islamic year must pay Zakat according to Islamic guidelines. It purifies wealth and helps support people in need.

Zakat in the Qur'an

“Establish prayer and give Zakat.”

— Qur'an 2:43

“Take from their wealth charity by which you cleanse and purify them.”

— Qur'an 9:103

Who Can Receive Zakat?

The Qur'an identifies the categories of people who are eligible to receive Zakat.

“Zakat is only for the poor, the needy, those who collect it, those whose hearts are to be reconciled, those in debt, for the cause of Allah, and for the traveler.”

— Qur'an 9:60

Zakat in Hadith

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“Islam is built upon five pillars… including giving Zakat.”
