Depression
Depression is a common mental disorder. It involves low mood, sad mood, and lack of pleasure or interest in daily routine for long period of time, suicidal ideations, sleep disturbance and eating problems. It can affect all aspects of life including personal life, social life and envirmental life, Depression is different from regular mood changes or feeling about everyday life. It can result from or lead problem at school or work place. Depression can causes difficulties mall aspects of life, including in the community and at school, home and work.
Depression can happen to any person. It can mostly happen to those people who have losses are more likely to develop depression. Women are more likely to have depression then men.
SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION
- A Depressive episode is different from mood fluctuation or changes. They last most of the day, nearly every day or for at least two weeks.
- During a depressive episode, a person experience a depressed mood like irritable, empty or feeling sad. They may feel a loss of pleasure or interest in activates.
OTHER SYMPTOMS MAY INCLUDE
- Disturbed or disrupted sleep
- Poor concentration
- Low self-worth
- Hopelessness’ about the future
- Feeling of excessive guilt
- Thoughts about dying or suicide
- Changes in appetite or weight
- Feeling of lowing energy or very tired.
Patterns of Depression
A Depressive episode can be categories as mild, moderate or severe depending on the severity or number of symptoms and well as the impact on the individual’s functioning. There are different patterns of depression including.
- Single episode of depressive disorders, the person’s first or only episode.
- Bipolar disorders meaning that depressive episodes alternate with periods of manic symptoms, which include irritability or euphoria, Increased energy or activities and other symptoms such as racing thoughts, increased self-esteem, increased talkativeness decreased need for sleep, dis tractability and impulsive reckless behavior.
- Recurrent depressive disorder meaning the person has a history of at least two depressive episodes.
